Semana 30: You are NOT putting that in my butt (read email for context)

Holy sweat! I felt like I was sweating this entire week. We're talking about anything from workout sweats to pure humidity sweats to cold sweats... the whole nine yards. Nuff said.

Nachos

I just heard a gun shot right outside my front door while I was writing the paragraph before. Eeeks.

Hamburguesas

Ayo

This was probably the hardest I laughed in the mission... so my old companion, Elder Ruiz, also got merked by some food, his stomach was literally destroyed. We were at Elder Martinez's apartment eating hamburgers and celebrating his 6 months. Towards the end of the night he pulled me and Elder Noriz, Elder Ruiz's trainee, aside and pulled out this needle and capsule. I asked if it was steroids he said no :( (joke) but it was an injection to help Elder Ruiz with his stomach problems. Apparently this stuff is way powerful and it will fix it in just a few hours. There was a problem though, Elder Ruiz hates needles (deathly afraid of needles). With that being said, Elder Martinez was hyping up little 18 year old Elder Noriz telling him that he has to find the perfect time to jab it in Elder Ruiz's butt (yes that's where it goes) while he's not paying attention. Welp at that point I was already laughing. Elder Ruiz caught on, saw the needle and freaked out. Then it turned into a standoff from across the room with Elder Ruiz yelling "You are NOT putting that in my butt" and Elder Martinez yelling back "it's going to help you! It doesn't even hurt!" So glad I put some context before or else this would've been a questionable argument between two missionaries... I wonder what the neighbors heard.

Our Life

We were at a members house and the dad asked me to pray in English. My golly that was a nightmare. I haven't said a prayer in English since I left New York. So I started my prayer in English and by the time I said Amen, I realized that I started in English and finished in Spanish ahaha. We all had a good laugh about that. Some things are just easier to say in Spanish than in English.

Felicitaciones Elder Martinez

We were at the bus station and I could tell that this man was trying to get my attention. I walked up to him and started talking in Spanish. Surprisingly, he responds in English. I continued talking in Spanish and he continues talking in English. Finally he pulls me down to his mouth level and whispers in my ear, saliva spraying on the side of my left cheek, and says "when you find someone who speaks English, talk to them in English so the people around you don't know what you're talking about. They know you are rich and will KIDDDDNAP you. Good day"  Definitely a weird experience.

Algo especial

Roadtrip to Misantla

I don't know what happened this week but my Spanish just shot through the roof. The difference between my fluency last week and this week is absolutely remarkable. My comp keeps harassing me and telling me that I am ready to train. I'm praying that is not the case hahaha. But yeah speaking to people in Spanish is not stressful anymore it just feels normal and casual. I don't really have problems putting my words together (sometimes still do) and I am starting to see some minor improvements.

"Ahh, I see you haven't planned, eh?"

We have transfer news again and I am shipping out of here! I am going to this small city called Poza Rica! I am whitewashing the area and I am getting my first hijo! That's right, I'm getting a greenie ahaha! So we'll see how well this goes with me only being here in Mexico for 10 weeks and not quite fluent yet. May need a few extra prayers!

Have a great week!
