Semana 31: Holy Heat

Image
So I got transferred... again and it has been great so far! My area, Poza Rica is a little more remote and far from the city center so it prevents me from impulse spending and blowing through all of my MSF in 3 days so that's been a plus.  Crab Allow me to describe my area in 6 words: bloody freaking hot with steep hills. Bonfire Baby Yeah I've decided that I am never EVER complaining about Arizona heat for as long as I live. It was 106 degrees with 80 some odd percent humidity and I was ready to dig my deathbed. With hills... ugh brutal.  A huge miracle/blessing is that this apartment has air conditioning so that was a big answer to my prayers. Coco 👀 It's that time of the year where Khaki pants are a no go and I learned that the hard way.  The difference in skin tone kills me haha . After 5 days of being here, gun shots are just a normal sound you hear every once in a while. Mijo One of my favorite members in this ward has a pet goose and every time you shout his ...

Semana 30: You are NOT putting that in my butt (read email for context)

Holy sweat! I felt like I was sweating this entire week. We're talking about anything from workout sweats to pure humidity sweats to cold sweats... the whole nine yards. Nuff said. Nachos I just heard a gun shot right outside my front door while I was writing the paragraph before. Eeeks. Hamburguesas   Ayo This was probably the hardest I laughed in the mission... so my old companion, Elder Ruiz, also got merked by some food, his stomach was literally destroyed. We were at Elder Martinez's apartment eating hamburgers and celebrating his 6 months. Towards the end of the night he pulled me and Elder Noriz, Elder Ruiz's trainee, aside and pulled out this needle and capsule. I asked if it was steroids he said no :( (joke) but it was an injection to help Elder Ruiz with his stomach problems. Apparently this stuff is way powerful and it will fix it in just a few hours. There was a problem though, Elder Ruiz hates needles (deathly afraid of needles). With that being said, Elder Mar...

Semana 29: Simp

Image
Mandilon is simp in Spanish Mi Líder de distrito We were at lunch with our zone leaders and discovered that we were both teaching the same exact person... and the funniest part was that she scheduled an appointment to meet with us on the same day at the same exact time. I kinda wish we didn't find out about that so we could have showed up at her house at the same exact time and had a double Spiderman meme moment. Dudes being dudes The buses here are going to give me spine problems. Just in case I'm telling you our house can pass off as the insect section at the zoo. Mosquitos have completely invested our house. My comp and I have bites literally everywhere... even in places where I didn't think they could reach. Drastic times lead to drastic measures, my comp has been scratching his back against the corner of a wall like a bear. #zika Zona Martinez When I thought reading a chapter of the Book of Mormon aloud in Spanish was a headache, I practically had an aneurysm reading i...

Semana 28: Suns Out, BoMs Out

Image
Dang the weeks just keep getting better and better over here! How is everyone doing?? So this week was really really fun... a little less diligent than usual but hey sometimes you just gotta enjoy the once in a lifetime experiences!  Impulse purchase First off, another American missionary (Elder Tingey) and I were asked by our mission President to travel to Tezuitlan to help him and the Assistants train all the companionships how to use the Areabook app more effectively and show them ways they can find while in quarantine. Our bus left at 7 in the morning on Friday, so we had exchanges the night before. Let me tell you it was SO NICE being with an American and to finally be able to speak in English again. Don't get me wrong, I love the Mexican missionaries to death but their idea of missionary work is just very different than the way the Americans have been taught how to do it. The night of exchanges we went to a family's house that we've been talking with.  Elder Tingey an...

Semana 27: Watch Out for Hanging Wires

Have you all heard of the traditional Mexican tortilla slap? Well, in Mexico, if you grab a thick, juicy corn (or flour) tortilla and slap it on someone's face, it is a huge sign of respect and trust. So next time you are at the dinner table with your parents, be sure to give them a big ole tortilla slap to the face. Then email back and tell me how it went! #vivaMexico :) The Compa In Mexico, members are just built different. Here are some examples: Member #1's House Me: *sharing a bomb scripture* *Members boyfriend calls* Member: *picks up* Give me a second I am talking to a cult right now Me:*???* Elder, did she say what I think she just said Elder Gregorio: *subtle nod* Member #2's House Elder Gregorio: So what is new with you?  Member: *sticks out her tongue* I pierced my tongue Me: Oh wow Member: Yeah it hurts really bad I haven't eaten in 15 days Me: *???* Well you need to eat or you will die Member: Yeah I don't know why I did it,  it sounded fun in the momen...
