Semana 27: Watch Out for Hanging Wires

Image
Have you all heard of the traditional Mexican tortilla slap? Well, in Mexico, if you grab a thick, juicy corn (or flour) tortilla and slap it on someone's face, it is a huge sign of respect and trust. So next time you are at the dinner table with your parents, be sure to give them a big ole tortilla slap to the face. Then email back and tell me how it went! #vivaMexico :) The Compa In Mexico, members are just built different. Here are some examples: Member #1's House Me: *sharing a bomb scripture* *Members boyfriend calls* Member: *picks up* Give me a second I am talking to a cult right now Me:*???* Elder, did she say what I think she just said Elder Gregorio: *subtle nod* Member #2's House Elder Gregorio: So what is new with you?  Member: *sticks out her tongue* I pierced my tongue Me: Oh wow Member: Yeah it hurts really bad I haven't eaten in 15 days Me: *???* Well you need to eat or you will die Member: Yeah I don't know why I did it,  it sounded fun in the momen...

Semana 25: Transferred BABAY

Image
Hello Friends and family! My sincerest apologies for not writing a weekly email last Monday. I was very busy and to be honest, I didn't really want to as there was not much to report. Forgive me! It is February aka the worst month ever for anyone who is single. So y'all should help a brotha out and reply to my emails OR you can send me a Message on Facebook and we can chat from there! Love You!  Martinez de la Torre A little update, I got transferred to this small city called Martinez de la Torre!! It is about 3 hours north of Xalapa and it is so beautiful here. It has been a while since I've seen the sun hahah!! My new companion is Elder Gregorio and he is from Juarez, Mexico. He is a phenomenal missionary and a very hard worker.  Elder Gregorio Martinez is exactly what I expected Mexico to be like.  There are dirt roads, tacos with dog meat, shacks, and a lot of old cars. I cannot even begin to describe how insane the bus drivers are here. I have feared for my life...

Semana 23: How to Make a Grown Man Almost Poop his Pants

Image
Hellooooo friends and family! I sure hope you all are having a STUPENDOUS week!! I sure did! We actually got a lot of good things accomplished and I cannot wait to tell you about it. AwWwWW First off you are probably wondering how to actually make a grown man almost poop his pants and trust me, I have discovered two ways this week... The first one is quite simple. You need 4 different variables to make this all possible 1. Narrow Alley 2. Darkness 3. Small Fence 4. Big Dog That is right, I was walking down this dark alley at night with my companion and out of nowhere this massive dog just launched himself at me and scared the absolute schniz outta me. I booked it out of there and kinda left my companion for dead. He made it out alive too but man the only thing I was thinking at that moment was "All I gotta do is out run my companion", which was not hard to do at all (subtle roast). The dogs here are absolutely insane, they have that crackhead/possessed by a devil energy for r...

Semana 22: Life Lessons Brought to You by Yours Truly

Image
Being a privileged white boy from Gilbert, Arizona, I have been sheltered to the way the other 99% of the world lives. With that being said, I have learned many incredible life lessons that will probably never benefit me where I live but if I ever need to escape from the United States to Mexico for some outlandish reason, I know my ´way´ (pun intended).  President and Sister Perkins, Elder Ruiz and I Number 1: DO NOT WAVE AT TAXI´S Again, being a gringo from the United States, I am sad to say that I only recall seeing taxis in the airport and in New York City. Plus I never need a taxi anyways because we have our own cars to drive. So my companion (trying to help me build my confidence in talking to people on the streets) told me to wave to EVERYONE and say the bare minimum "¡Buenos dias! ¿Como está?" to EVERYONE we walk past. So I did just that and everything was going great...and being the lunkhead I am, I waved at a taxi driver. The taxi driver flashed his brights, pulled o...
