Semana 16: Tis the Season
The annoying part about only being allowed to make calls is that you have no idea who is on the other end of the line. We have discovered that half of our teaching pool is absolutely crazy.
We gave one of our friends, Francisco, a call a few days ago and it was probably the most awkward phone call I have yet experienced. He seemed pretty irritated that we called right before dinner. We asked him what he's been up to recently and he said "just looking for females yanno". We had a nice conversation with him and then he very frantically asked, "Did you know that Jesus Christ died?!?!?!" I guess it's not common knowledge amongst Catholics that Jesus Christ died. We started teaching him the Doctrine of Christ and he hit us with the "I think I am Jesus Christ through God". Elder Wilson replied with " Well... we know that Jesus Christ was born 2020 years ago in Bethlehem... so yeah". There was an awkward pause for like 15 seconds. The man was convinced he was Jesus Christ so we had to stop teaching him.
The Squad
Another friend of ours, Percy, is really fun to talk to because he's so old and goes on these rants about the most random events in the world. We gave him a call and we were planning on putting him on date for baptism. We asked him if he read the Book of Mormon and he said "oh yeah. This pastor I was watching on TV quoted this verse in the Book of Mormon and I loved it! It teaches us so much about why Jesus Christ died for us" The scripture was Alma 63:10... I'm not gonna even bother putting it on this email because it literally has nothing to do with Jesus Christ ahahah. And he got it from a pastor on a television channel?!?! I think it's safe to say we didn't put him on date for baptism.
Our branch spoils us
Thank heavens for our friend, Bobbie, or I would probably be going insane. She is getting more elect by the second. We taught her 3 different lessons this week over zoom and had a member join each time. They were so great. She joined sacrament meeting over zoom so obviously your boy had to go up and share a bomb testimony. She even watched the Christmas devotional! Awe man life is so great isn't it?!?!
Legend says there were 9 wisemen
I started reading Doctrine and Covenants this week and this one scripture really stuck with me.
D&C 18:15-16
"And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!"
"And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!"
I love this scripture. As I have sat back and pondered about these past 2 months in New York, I have discovered the importance of bringing as many souls unto Christ as possible. However, "how great shall your joy be save it be one soul". I know that the one soul is me. God has called me on a mission to change me and strengthen my conversion to him. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be out here and I can feel my love for God growing.
I love you all so much! I hope everyone has a great rest of their week! Stay safe!
